Hey!
I’ve been building Old Light, a persistent browser-based 4X.
It’s live and playable now, free, no install or signup required. Just open the page, fill in a username and try it out.
You start with a single star system and grow, one system at a time, into something larger. Expand your borders. You meet other empires, and decide whether to ally or take what they have.
How it plays:
-
Build jobs and your economy run in real time. Close the tab and your warehouse keeps filling, and your queued buildings will process. Come back later to check out the progress and plan the next steps.
Economy you have to pace. Two resources, plus an energy budget. Overload your reactor and the whole system drops into deficit causing slower builds and less income. The early game is learning to keep extractors, storage, and energy in balance. -
A full galaxy of rivals, human and NPCs. You can see every empire’s systems and score anywhere on the galaxy map, but what they’ve actually built stays hidden until you send a bunch of probes there to see what they’re up to.
-
Build a shipyard, recruit ships, run recon, raid, and capture systems. But attacking other players much lower level than you will cost you dearly.
-
Sector bonuses + territory. Empires project borders across the galaxy. Dominate a sector’s territory and you claim its bonus.
It’s a slow game, builds take minutes to hours, no babysitting required. Designed to sit in a background tab and check in on occasionally.
It’s heavily inspired by Tribal Wars and theming from OGame. Of which both I played loads of in the past.
